Art at Lincoln Street Center 2010
Expressive Drawing Class for Youth offered at Lincoln Street
The Lincoln Street Center in Rockland is now accepting registrations for Totem – Lessons in Creative Self Exploration and Realistic Drawing for young beginners taught by Becky Barrows. These classes are for youth, grades 5-9. Starting October 19th, the class will be held twice weekly for three weeks on Tuesdays and Thursday, from 4-6pm in the Art Studio.
Creative and FUN, this class will not only teach the foundations of realistic drawing, but will build upon the innate expressive quality of each child. Students will learn how to confidently express their own unique vision and engage in the spirit and harmony of art. Developed through years of experience as an art teacher to school aged children, Becky will introduce her own creative technique called Totem. Through this unique process, she will inspire the confidence that children need to reach their full potential and style through the use of symbolism and exploration of personal totems. At the end of this course, the students will show their work to the parents and community with a festive celebration and formal art exhibit at Lincoln Street Center. The class will be a rewarding and fun adventure of developing the artist’s vision within, and is great for beginners as well as those with experience in drawing.
This will be the first in a series of courses for youth that will be offered at the Lincoln Street Center. Talented artist and instructor Becky Barrows will lead the students through a series of drawing lessons designed to excite and inspire your child. She has a great rapport and respect for children of all ages, and your child is sure to benefit from the experience.
Becky received her bachelor’s of fine arts from Texas State University in San Antonio, Texas and has recently moved back home to Maine. Her major is in Studio Art, with an all level teaching certificate in visual arts. She has over 13 years of teaching experience with students from all cultures and backgrounds, and has taught at the middle and high school levels in Austin, Houston and San Marcos, Texas. She is an artist as well, and her paintings have been displayed in several galleries throughout Texas. Under her direction, her students have won national awards, scholarships and have received great recognition throughout her teaching career. Her college thesis for art education was completed in the field of art therapy, and she believes that art is not only a rewarding skill to teach, but just as importantly a vehicle with which to teach children to understand, respect, and express their feelings with creativity, meaning and confidence.
