Zumba, Yoga and Dance at Lincoln Street

Zumba
Zumb® fuses hypnotic musical rhythms and tantalizing
moves to create a dynamic workout system designed
to be fun and easy to do. Our goal is simple: We want
people to work out, to love working out, and to get
hooked. By integrating Zumba® into everyday life
individuals may achieve long term benefits while
experiencing an absolute blast in one exhilarating
hour of caloric burning, heart racing, muscle pumping,
and body energizing movements meant to engage and
captivate for life. The routines feature interval training
sessions where fast and slow rhythms and resistance
training are combined to tone and sculpt your body
while burning fat. Add some Latin flavor and International
zest into the mix and you've got Zumba®!

Held Thursdays at 5:30pm in the Gymnasium on the Ground Floor of Lincoln St. Center. Please bring clean shoes to change into. Register by calling 207.701-6970, or just come to the class.

New students always welcome. Please call to register

Cost: $5

Weekly class descriptions

Sunrise Yoga. A mixed level class rooted in the Kripalu yoga tradition. Let the early morning light lift you from sleep into the sun-filled yoga studio for a journey into the breath, body and spirit. Each week, students will open into the poses that make up the Sun Salutation, with an invitation to explore sensation with awareness and to modify for individual sensitivities. There will be space and time for balancing postures, creative variations and personal response, as well as relaxation before heading out into the day. The benefits of this class include increased strength and flexibility, improved circulation and a relaxed mind. This is a mixed level class; previous yoga experience is helpful but not required.

Meditation. This is a semi-private class by session registration only. Are you curious about meditation? Are you looking for ways to cultivate compassion and relax your mind. The practice of meditation offers a gentle way to open to full awareness. Come sit, breathe and relax into your whole being. The one-hour gatherings include silent sitting and walking meditation, pranayama, gentle guidance for mindfulness, readings from meditation teachers such as Pema Chodron and integration/discussion. The cost for the session is $50; limited to 10 students (6 spaces left).

Vinyasa Flow. A dynamic and spirit-lifting class rooted in the Kripalu yoga tradition. Dive into deep, flowing postures (asanas) to strengthen your physical body and cultivate an open heart. Breathwork (pranayama) will enliven the practice, bringing increased energy and supporting unfolding from the inside out. Students will cultivate awareness of sensation and explore personal edges through sustaining postures. Deep relaxation and meditation will support integration. The benefits of this class include increased strength and flexibility, connection to prana (life force), a clear mind and a rejuvenated soul. This is an intermediate class; previous yoga experience is helpful.

Yoga Nidra. A restorative and rejuvenating class rooted in the Kripalu yoga tradition. Let go of stress and open to the well of energy that lies within. Each week, the class will begin with a group centering, calming breathwork and a series of gentle yoga postures. Seated meditation will follow to relax the mind and body. A long and nourishing period of Yoga Nidra will round out the class. Yoga Nidra means the “sleep of the yogi,” and students will be guided into a deep, restorative state of rest. The benefits of this class include stress relief, relaxation, self-awareness and mental clarity and confidence. This is a gentle class; perfect for students of all levels.

Precision & Grace. This is a semi-private class by session registration only. Precision & Grace focuses on several postures each week with opportunity for flow and personal exploration throughout. One-on-one assists and partner work are highlights of this special gathering. Precision & Grace is an opportunity to deepen your relationship with your body, tuning into the anatomy and alignment of yoga asana while feeling the inherent essence and grace of each posture. Students in the group help design the classes each week, providing suggestions for poses and themes. The cost for the session is $100; limited to 6 students (2 spaces left).

Gentle Yoga. A soothing and restful class rooted in the Kripalu yoga tradition. Through gentle yoga postures (asanas) and breathwork (pranayama), students will learn to tune into their inner wisdom and trust their natural strength. Detailed instruction and modifications will be provided for all postures including forward bends, backbends, twists, lateral stretches and inversions. Restorative postures and deep relaxation will round out the experience. The benefits of this class include a quiet and focused mind, a lengthened spine, increased flexibility in the joints and an open heart. This is a gentle class; perfect for beginners, individuals healing injuries and advanced students who want to slow down.

Prepare. Wear comfortable clothing; layers are helpful as your body temperature will change over the course of class. Bring a personal yoga mat, if you have one. (The studio has mats and other props to borrow as well. You are encouraged to buy a mat.) Bring water in a closed container if you’d like. Please arrive 5-10 minutes to set up your mat and settle in. New students kindly arrive early to fill out a registration card.

SIMPLYOGA in Studio 22

with Gail Ribeck, Certified Kripalu Yoga Teacher
Gentle, Kripalu Style Yoga for all levels
Mondays 5:30-7:00 p.m.
Please Register

Beginning again in September 2011, on break during the Summer
Simple postures focus on alignment and the coordination of breath and movement. Slow, gentle stretching and strengthening will be practiced, with the development of focus, balance, attention, breathing techniques and relaxation. Kripalu Yoga has something for everyone because it works on so many levels. Many people come to it for the physical benefits of increased strength and flexibility, and then also find ways to calm, focus and energize their body-mind.  I call my classes ‘SIMPLYOGA’ because the essence of Yoga is not to achieve perfect or complicated postures, but to accept and honor your unique self by exploring your limits with respect and compassion.

COST: Drop-ins $12, discounted by the session.
REGISTRATION: Please call or email to register and for current session information.

shiva yoga
ShivaShakti School of Yoga

ShivaShakti Yoga is an integral approach to yoga,
cultivating harmony within the body, mind, and spirit.
Rather than being a style, ShivaShakti Yoga is a
methodology based on traditional teachings adapted
for today’s world. The name ShivaShakti represents the
balancing of masculine and feminine energies, principles
of hard and soft, and yin and yang. This concept of
unifying the energetic polarity within is the focus of
ShivaShakti Yoga.
The physical yoga practice taught at the school is
derived from traditional asana styles. We teach a Vinyasa
form influenced by the sublime, meditative qualities of
Sivananda yoga and the purifying, strengthening, flow
sequences of Ashtanga. ShivaShakti classes reflect the
dynamic polarity of nature, varying from vigorous, flow
classes to more restorative, introspective routines.

Upcoming Shivashakti Events:
