Beginners Joinery, Overview of Traditional Methods; Hand Tools
This class introduces you to the classic hand tools with emphasis on sharpening and measuring. Students will practice their skills learning ‘no-glue’ methods of joining objects in wood – close fits, wood pegs, and accurate layout – as well as the appropriate application and techniques of traditional joinery. Bring your hand planes, chisels, edge sharpening materials, measuring tools and safety materials: items are available to borrow.  This is an entry level course for those who have a basic understanding of tools, measuring math and shop procedure.  Students will acquire an understanding of how to use the characteristics of hardwoods to create strong functional accurate joints used in furniture, timberframe structures, etc. 8 weeks, Tuesdays $120.  Plus material fee, $40; Limited to 6 students. Tuesdays Sept. 20-Nov.8 5:30-8:30pm
