Out of the Maine Stream

An introduction to Parallax expressionism
Steve Roberts of Rockland
Kate Madore of Rangeley
Megan Jean Morris of Farmington

Big, bold and hold the seagulls

Three Maine artists who paint big and eschew the typical "Maine" subjects invite the public to an opening reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, June 6, at Lincoln Street Center for Arts & Education, 24 Lincoln St.

Their show, "Out of the Maine Stream, will run through July 5 in the center's Jean B. Chalmers Art Gallery.

The artists are part of the Parallax Expressionism movement, painting from a perspective that incorporates the abstract with the representational while using the figure as basis for a transformational inquiry in paint.

Artists in the show are Megan Jean Morris from Farmington, Katy Madore from Rangeley and Steve Roberts of Rockland. Morris paints in oils, while Madore and Roberts paint acrylics. Roberts has his studio at Lincoln Street Center, a few doors down from the gallery.

The gallery is open during center office hours, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. weekdays, and other times by appointment. To make an appointment or for more information, call Roberts on his cell phone, (586) 530-6406.
