Audition and General Info: (posted Dec. 2007)
The ACTNOW Children's Theatre will hold Open
Auditions for its Spring 2008 production of "The
Wizard of Oz" on Fri., Dec. 14 from 5 to 7 p.m.,
Sat., Dec. 15 from 9 to 11 a.m., and Mon., Dec. 17
from 6 to 8 p.m. Young people, ages 4 to 14, are
invited to audition for this musical of the book by
L. Frank Baum made popular by the classic 1938
movie starring Judy Garland. All participants should
come prepared to sing a simple song as part of the
audition process.
Principle roles in "Wizard" will be double cast for this
production. Production dates are scheduled for the
last two weekends in March and will include two
matinees. "Wizard of Oz" will be co-directed by Valerie
Wells of Rockland as stage director and Cassandra
Rantala of Spruce Head as music director and choreographer.
Stage director Valerie Wells has worked for Lincoln
Street Center as the Children's Theater director and
as a teacher of drama. A resident of Maine for 24 years,
Wells teaches drama for the South School Art Academy
program and for the after school Theater Program in
Thomaston. An accomplished actor and singer she has
appeared on the stage at the Waldo Theater, The Camden
Opera House and The Rockport Opera House.
Music director/choreogapher Cassandra Rantala holds
degrees in Theatre, English and Education and has acted,
sung and danced professionally since the age of 19.
Initially trained in music by her father, Rantala studied
musical theater at Brigham Young University and dance
with Elenore Thompson. She has directed or performed
in over 40 productions. Roles include Maria in "West Side
Story," Bianca in "Kiss Me Kate" and Hodel in "Fiddler on
the Roof." She currently teaches dance, voice, piano, violin
and flute from her studio in Saint George.
